Virginia high jumper Meggie Schuelke opened up the 2007 indoor season with a win at the Virginia Tech Invitational as she cleared 5′ 8.75″. Two other Cavaliers also stood on the awards podium as Susan Brooks took third in the 1000m (2:56.06) and All-American Tomika Ferguson finished third in the triple jump with her 41′ 5.75″.

Brooks led a 3-5 finish in the 1000m as Janine Ricci ran a 2:56.64, less than a second behind her teammate. Ayla Smith finished fourth in the 500, running a 1:14.91.

Competition continues tomorrow (Jan 13) at the Rector Field House at Virginia Tech.
