CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia senior Stefan Hirniak (Highland Park, N.J.) was named ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Co-Performer of the Week conference officials announced on Monday. Hirniak shares the honor with Virginia Tech’s Mikey McDonald.
Hirniak swam the fastest 200 butterfly of the year in the ACC season in Virginia’s win over Maryland on Saturday at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. His time of 1:45.49 was just 0.26 seconds off Michael Raab’s pool record set in 2004. The mark was also 0.19 seconds off Hirniak’s career best in the event.
The honor is the first of the season for Hirniak, and fourth for a Cavalier this season. John Millen (Lilburn, Ga.) was honored three times earlier in the season.
