Tucson, AZ – Despite turning in their best single-round score of the event, the eighth-ranked Virginia women’s golf team moved up just one spot to place 14th at the Arizona Invitational. The Cavaliers shot 305 Tuesday after posting scores of 314 and 316 during Monday’s opening two rounds of play. UVa finished at 83-over 935. The tournament was Virginia’s first of the spring.

Arizona State, ranked second in the latest Golfweek standings, won the 15-team event with a score of 16-over 868. Third-ranked Duke was second at 876 and 11th-ranked USC was third at 881. The field featured 12 teams ranked in Golfweek’s current top-25.

Sophomore Jennie Arseneault managed Virginia’s best score she finished 34th at 15-over 228. She shot 78 during Tuesday’s final round. Leah Wigger was 45th overall at 232 while Rachel Smith was 58th along with teammate Kristen Simpson at 238. Freshman Whitney Neuhauser was 66th at 244. Smith carded the Cavaliers best score Tuesday with a 4-over 75. Wigger and Simpson both shot 76 and Neuhauser fired a 79.

Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst took medalist honors with a 3-under 210. She was the only player in the field to finish under par. Arizona State’s Anna Nordqvist and USC’s Dewi Schreefel tied for second at 1-over 214.

The Cavaliers are off until March 16-18 when they compete at the LSU/Cleveland Classic Invitational in Baton Rouge.
