The Virginia women’s lacrosse team will host in-state rival Richmond on Wednesday (Feb. 28) at 7 p.m. in Klockner Stadium. The contest is the second consecutive game for Virginia against an in-state foe, while the Spiders are facing their second consecutive ACC opponent and third of the 2007 season.

Virginia is led defensively by US team members Jessy Morgan and Jen Holden. The Cavaliers held Virginia Tech to two goals on seven shots in the opening game and allowed only one 8-meter attempt the entire contest. Kendall McBrearty earned her second win in as many starts in her career as Virginia held the Hokies scoreless for the final 37:10 of the match.

The Cavaliers dominated the draw controls in the midfield, led by Ashley McCulloch who won five. Virginia won 12 of the 19 draws and were able to establish a presence right from the start. Captain Jess Wasilewski has seen significant playing time since starting the majority of the games in her rookie season and she will lead the Virginia midfield. The Cavaliers have consistently been one of the top teams in the nation in draw controls.

Virginia’s offense is led by All-American Blair Weymouth, the 2006 National Rookie of the Year who is a member of Team USA. A second-team All-American in 2006, Weymouth is joined offensively by Kate Breslin, who scored a career-high six goals against Virginia Tech last Wednesday. USA Team member Megan O’Malley is also back for the Cavaliers and along with Whitaker Hagerman provides the ‘Hoos a potent offense.

Opening draw for the game is set for 7 p.m. in Klockner Stadium.
