WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 3 Virginia men’s tennis team closed out a six-match road trip with a 4-2 win at No. 12 Wake Forest Sunday afternoon at the Leighton Tennis Center. The Cavaliers remain unbeaten in the ACC with the win, improving to 16-3 overall (4-0 ACC), while the Demon Deacons (14-2, 2-1) suffered their first conference loss.

“This was a great win for our team,” said associate head coach Tony Bresky. “The wins this weekend are a testament to the hard work our team put in this past week after a disappointing trip to Texas. The doubles point was really exciting and for us to come back from losing it shows the type of character this team has.”

Wake Forest jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match by winning an extremely close doubles point as all three matches went to a tiebreaker. Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Dominic Inglot (London, England) gave Virginia the early edge with a 9-8 (2) victory over Cory Parr and Charles Sartor at No. 2 doubles. Wake Forest drew even when No. 25 Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski downed No. 2 Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) 9-8 (5) at No. 1 doubles. The Deacons clinched the opening point as Andrew Hamar and Steven Forman defeated Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) 9-8 (3) at No. 3 doubles.

The Cavaliers rallied in singles for the dual match victory. Barrick evened the dual match as he disposed of Forman 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5 position. Devvarman gave Virginia a 2-1 lead as he won a battle of top-ten players, topping Paul 6-2, 6-3. Marko Miklo’s (Bratislava, Slovakia) 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles against Hamar made the score 3-1. The Demon Deacons closed the lead to 3-2 as Parr recorded a three-set win over Huey at No. 2 singles. Inglot clinched the match for Virginia as he rallied for a three-set win, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Adamski at the No. 3 position. In the final match on the courts, Singer led Jason Morgenstern 6-1 when the match was abandoned.

Virginia will return home on Wednesday when it hosts Virginia Tech at the Snyder Tennis Center. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
