Four men from Virginia’s track and field team qualified for the IC4A Championships today following their personal-best runs in both the 5K and the 1500m in competition at the Duke Relays today. Taylor Smith led the Cavaliers with a 14:24, with first-year Trey Miller right behind him in 14:29. James Erickson ran a 14:36, while Matt Gambale just missed the entry with his 14:37.17. Kevin Tschirhart also qualified for the IC4As with his 3:50.81 in the 1500, which he set while leading his heat.

Smith, a 2005 ACC Champion, bettered his previous-best time by a phenomenal 26 seconds. Miller knocked 19 seconds off his best time, while Gambale lowered his best mark by 13 seconds and Erickson shaved off eight seconds from his time at the Wake Forest Open two weeks ago.

Kyle Galle moved up to No. 6 all-time at Virginia in the hammer with his 46.75 (153′ 4″); he won his section in the competition today. Reuben Jones led a 3-6-7 finish in the men’s 200 with his 21.82, while Kellen Blassingame was just behind him with a 22.61 and Brian Lee followed with his 22.78.

Jen Dolson ran a 10:10.95 and took fourth overall in the 3000m.

Action at the Duke Relays continues tomorrow in Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium.
