The Virginia field hockey team will travel to Vermont for the first time in school history this weekend as it competes in the Sheraton Catamount Classic on September 8-9 in Burlington, Vt. The No. 14 Cavaliers will face New Hampshire on Saturday at 2:00 before taking on host Vermont at 12:30 on Sunday.

Virginia will play the Wildcats for the seventh time in school history, and for the sixth time in that series, the game will take place at a neutral site. UNH leads the series 3-1-2, with the one Virginia win coming in Charlottesville in 1992, ironically the only time the two have met on one of the team’s home fields. New Hampshire stands 2-1 on the year and will face Harvard on Sept. 5 before taking on the Cavaliers on Saturday. Shauna Sellenger leads the Wildcats in scoring with one goal and four assists, while Margaux Shute is allowing only 2.00 GAA.

Virginia and Vermont have never faced each other on the hockey pitch. The Catamounts are 4-0 on the season, only the second time in school history they have started with such a record. One of those wins included a 1-0 victory over No. 17 Providence, the first time that the Catamounts have ever defeated a ranked opponent. Danielle Collins broke the school record for scoring in UVM’s win over Fairfield and now has five goals and two assists to lead the Catamounts in scoring, while Kristen Heavens has allowed only one goal all season to post a 0.25 GAA and a 95.5% save percentage.
