CHARLOTTESVILLE – The third-ranked Cavalier men’s soccer team will play on the road and play a ranked opponent for the first time this season as it travels to Dallas this weekend for the SMU Mi Cocina Classic. Virginia will meet No. 9 SMU on Friday and play Tulsa on Sunday.

The Cavaliers (2-0-0) won a pair of games at home last weekend to open the year, downing Columbia 5-0 and Richmond 2-0. Chris Tierney (Wellesley, Mass.) and Yannick Reyering (Mettingen, Germany) lead Virginia in scoring with three and two goals respectively. The Cavalier defense posted a pair of shutouts last weekend, with goalkeeper Michael Giallombardo (Manalapan, N.J.) making five saves in the process.

SMU (0-0-1) salvaged a 1-1 tie against Saint Louis in their opener. Trailing 1-0 and down to 10 men after a red card, the Mustangs drew a penalty kick in the 84th minute that was converted by Bruno Guarda to even the match. Tulsa opened the season with a 2-0-0 record, winning 3-1 at Wisconsin and 2-1 in overtime against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Live gametracker coverage of both Cavalier matches at the tournament will be available at www.virginiasports.com.
