UVa Finishes 8th at Wolf Run

Zionsville, IN The Virginia men’s golf team opened the 2007-08 season by placing eighth at the 15-team Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind. The Cavaliers shot 300 Sunday and dropped one spot after starting the day in seventh place. UVa was led by freshman Amory Davis, who was 14th overall in his first collegiate event with a 9-over 222.
After shooting 74 and 71 during the first two rounds on the par-71 Wolf Run Golf Course, Davis finished with a 6-over 77 Sunday. Conrad Von Borsig was second for Virginia at 223 to finish 29th. Greg Carlin posted an 81 during the final round to drop back to 42nd at 226. Kyle Stough, who had UVa’s low final round with a 72, tied Carlin in the final standings. Will Collins, the other freshman in the UVa lineup, was 54th at 229.
Penn State shot the day’s low round, a 2-over 286 to win the title by six strokes over Michigan. The Nittany Lions finished at 862. Indiana was third at 869. Michigan’s Nick Pumord took medalist play at 3-under 210, including a final round of 4-under 67.
Virginia returns to action next Sunday when they play in the Notre Dame Gridiron Classic.
