The Virginia men’s cross country team, fresh off a fourth-place finish at the Pre-Nationals meet, is ranked No. 11 in the latest rankings released by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches’ Association. The Cavaliers upset 10 teams at last week’s race, including No. 2 Wisconsin, and are now ranked No. 2 in the Southeast Region. In addition, Virginia is the second-highest ranked team in the ACC, after N. C. State.
The Cavaliers used a tight pack to run past a number of teams, as the Hoos packed five runners across the line in the span of 31 seconds. Andy Biladeau led the Cavalier men, covering the 6K race in 23:42, with first-year Emil Heineking and All-American Jan Foerster right behind him at 23:55 and 23:58, respectively.
The Virginia men are off until October 27 when they host the ACC Cross Country Championships at Panorama Farms. The men’s race will start at 10 a.m. while the women’s race will follow at 11 a.m.
