CHARLOTTESVILLE Cavalier junior Dominic Inglot (London, England) became the first Virginia player to win the singles title ITA Wilson Mideast Region Championships. In Monday’s final, he defeated Albert Larregola of Virginia Tech 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

Inglot, seeded No. 9, won the title by winning six matches over the past week, including three against ranked players. He defeated No. 45 Andy Juc of Furman in the round of 16, No. 26 Martin Sayer of Radford in the semifinals, and No. 100 Larregola in the final.

Inglot was the first Cavalier to reach the regional singles final since Huntley Montgomery in 2000. That year, the final was not played.

By reaching the final, Inglot qualified for the ITA National Indoor Championships next month in Columbus, Ohio. He is the third Cavalier in the 32-player draw, joining Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.), who had both already qualified by reaching the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships.
