UVa Golf Teams Finish Fall at Landfall Tradition

Charlottesville, VA The Virginia men’s and women’s golf teams will close out the fall portion of their 2007-08 schedules this weekend at UNC-Wilmington’s Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall. The 54-hole event takes place Friday through Sunday and features 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s squads.

The men’s field, includes 31st-ranked Virginia Tech, Ohio State (44), Virginia (77), Purdue (78), VCU (84) and Xavier (91) give the tournament six teams ranked in Golfweek’s Top 100 schools. Also competing are Georgia Southern, Iowa, Kansas, Tulsa and William & Mary.

The Cavaliers’ men’s lineup features Greg Carlin, Henry Smart, Conrad Von Borsig, Amory Davis and Kyle Stough. Carlin tops UVa with a 72.55 stroke average and has led the Cavaliers in scoring the last two tournaments.

The Virginia women are the defending tournament champions after winning a tiebreaker with Michigan State last year. The Cavaliers were led by the sixth-place finish of Jennie Arseneault who shot 9-over 225.

This year’s women’s field is exceptionally strong, featuring eight teams ranked in Golfweek’s Top 50. Purdue holds down the No. 12 spot, followed by Wake Forest (18), Michigan State (22), Virginia (25), North Carolina (28), NC State (34), Tulsa (40) and Ohio State (43). Also competing are UNC-Greensboro, Michigan and Penn State.

Virginia’s lineup will include Lene Krog, Kristen Simpson, Whitney Neuhauser, Arseneault and Calle Nielson. Krog, who is ranked 26th by Golfweek, leads UVa with a 72.56 stroke average. She has finished in the top-10 in all three tournaments this fall.

Virginia is one of five schools to have both men’s and women’s programs entered in the tournament.
