Matt Mitchell is a sophomore forward on the Virginia men’s soccer team from Tariffville, Conn. In his first season as a starter this year, he has scored in each of the past two games, his first two career goals. On Saturday, Mitchell and rest of the 14th ranked Cavaliers visit No. 21 Maryland.

Question: How was getting your first career goal against Duke last Friday?
Mitchell: It was great. I had gone for a long time, eight or nine games, and hadn’t scored one yet, so it was really great.

Question: You’ve been playing for two years, and have gotten your two career goals in back to back games. How have these past games been for you?
Mitchell: It’s been really good for me. It’s been nice to finally put some in because as a forward, the team expects me to score.

Question: How has your role on the team changed?
Mitchell: I am playing a lot more this season than I was my first year, and have a lot more responsibility.

Question: As one of the younger starters, what is it like playing with Yannick Reyering?
Mitchell: Yannick’s a great guy. I’ve been really fortunate to have gotten the chance to play with him and learn from him.

Question: What is the offense going to have to do in order to be productive for the final two ACC games of the season?
Mitchell: We are just going to have to be as aggressive as possible, getting tackles early, and getting a good start on the road, because we’ve had trouble on the road.

Question: What are your personal goals for the rest of your career?

Mitchell: I just hope to play two more years of good soccer for Virginia.

Question: What are you dressing up as for Halloween?
Mitchell: A wolf.
