CHARLOTTESVILLETunji Soroye, a senior center on the Virginia men’s basketball team, had arthroscopic surgery on Nov. 8 to correct cartilage damage in his left knee.

Soroye is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

“We will miss Tunji while he rehabilitates his knee,” Virginia head coach Dave Leitao said. “We look forward to having him back in action when he’s recovered from his surgery.”

The 6-11 Soroye has lettered three times for UVa and started 34 games the last two seasons. He averaged 2.1 points and 3.2 rebounds a game in 28 games last season. He has blocked 78 shots during his Virginia career and has led Virginia in blocked shots the last two seasons.

Soroye is from Dugbe Ibadan, Nigeria.
