Virginia Takes On NC State at ACC Tournament Tuesday
CHARLOTTESVILLE The eighth-seeded Virginia men’s soccer team will take on ninth-seeded NC State Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the 2007 ACC Tournament. The game kicks off from the SAS Soccer Stadium in Cary, N.C.
The winner of Tuesday’s matchup will advance to play Boston College in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. That game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
The Cavaliers (10-6-2, 1-5-2 ACC) ended their regular season with a 3-1 loss at Wake Forest on Nov. 9, and will be without the services of forward Yannick Reyering, the ACC’s leading scorer. Reyering suffered a season-ending knee injury prior to the Wake Forest game.
NC State is also coming off of a loss, as the Wolfpack dropped its regular-season finale on Nov. 10, 2-0, to Duke. El Hadj Cisse leads NC State with five goals and an assist.
Virginia leads the all-time series with NC State, 40-16-7, and the last meeting was earlier this season on Sept. 22. The squads tied, 2-2, and Chase Neinken and Reyering had the Cavalier goals.
Virginia has won 14 ACC crowns, the most recent coming back-to-back in 2003 and 2004. Last year at the conference tournament, the Cavaliers lost in penalty kicks in the final to Wake Forest.
