CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Rocco Caponi (Uniontown, Ohio) has been named ACC Wrestler of the Week following his championship performance at the Brute/Bearcat Open in Binghamton, N.Y. last Saturday. The honor is the second of his career. He also earned wrestler of the week laurels Jan. 10, 2005.

Caponi swept through his four matches at 184 pounds, defeating Cornell’s Nate Holly, 8-5, in the final. He also earned wins over Drexel’s Justin Wieller (3-1) and Cornell’s Travis Dale (9-0) and Justin Kerber (2-0). Cornell is a consensus top-10 team in all of the preseason rankings.

Caponi now owns a 6-0 record through the first two weeks of the season. He is ranked as high as No. 9 nationally at 184 pounds.

Virginia is back in action Saturday, traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete in the ACC/Big Ten Clash. The Cavaliers are slated to face Purdue at noon, followed by a 2 p.m. match against Michigan State.
