CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia men’s tennis team was well represented as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its regional rankings following the conclusion of the fall schedule. The Cavaliers had five players ranked in the Mideast Region singles rankings, including the top three, and three of the top five teams in the Mideast Region doubles rankings.

Senior Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India), junior Dominic Inglot (London, England), and senior Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) are the top three players in the regional rankings. Devvarman, the reigning NCAA Champion and preseason No. 1 player in the national rankings, went 13-1 in the fall, winning the ITA National Indoor Championship. Inglot became the first Cavalier to win the singles title at the ITA Mideast Regional. He also won the backdraw of the ITA National Indoor Championships, defeating three top ten players in the process. Huey, ranked No. 13 nationally in the preseason, was 7-1 in the fall, winning his flight of the UVa Fall Invitational and reaching the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships.

Also earning preseason regional rankings were sophomore Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.), who was No. 16, and senior Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece), who was No. 29.

The team of Devvarman and Huey are No. 1 in the regional doubles rankings. The preseason No. 1 in the national rankings went 13-0 in fall, including winning both the ITA All-American and ITA National Indoor doubles titles. Barrick and Inglot are No. 3 in the regional double rankings, after a fall season highlighted by advancing to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships. First-years Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) and Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) are No. 5 in the regional rankings, after reaching the finals of the ITA Mideast Regional in their first tournament as a team.
