UVa Golfers Tied for Fifth at Miami

Miami Lake, FL The Virginia women’s golf team is tied for fifth in the 12-team Qdoba Invitational at the Don Shula Golf Club in Miami Lake, Fla. The Cavaliers shot 19-over 307 during their first round of the spring season. East Carolina shot 296 and holds a four-shot lead over second-place Louisville and Miami after the opening round.

Virginia freshman Calle Nielson is tied for fifth overall at 2-over 74. Also posting a 74 was Cavalier first-year Joy Kim, who is competing as a non-scoring individual. Virginia junior Lene Krog is in 12th place with a 75.

Junior Jennie Arseneault, who is back in the Virginia lineup after missing most of the fall due to a bad back, is tied for 37th with sophomore teammate Whitney Neuhauser. Carly Truitt, as playing as a non-scoring individual, is 47th at 81 while Kristen Simpson shot 84 and is in 57th place.

Miami’s Jessica Steward and Kansas’ Grace Thiry lead the field at 1-under 71.

The second round of the tournament gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Monday and the final round is slated for Tuesday.
