CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Virginia softball team (9-23, 4-5 ACC) hits the road this week to play a doubleheader at Longwood beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Farmville, Va. Live stats will be available online at VirginiaSports.com.

The Cavaliers are coming off their second ACC series win of the season after taking two-of-three from NC State at home over the weekend. The last time Virginia won two conference series in the same season was in 2005, when the squad claimed series victories over NC State, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Second-year Kelly Haller leads Virginia at the plate with a .393 batting average and is second on the team with 33 hits. Fourth-year Lindsey Preuss hits .362 and tops the squad with 38 hits. Third-year Sarah Tacke’s 20 RBI leads the team.

Longwood is 19-12 on the season, including an 8-2 record at home. The Lancers are coming off a doubleheader sweep against Presbyterian, winning 7-0 and 3-2. Last Wednesday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina defeated Longwood 8-0 and 3-1.

Ryan Washington leads the Lancers at the plate with a .410 average and a team-best 34 hits and 18 RBI. Nichole Simmons is hitting .333 in 28 of the team’s 31 games on the year while Caitlin Hooe hits .322 and is second on the team with 29 hits.

In the circle, Briana Wells is 8-5 on the year leads Longwood with a 2.56 earned run average in 84.1 innings of work. Rachel Mills, who has seen 76 innings of action, has a team-high 64 strikeouts.

Virginia has a slight edge over Longwood in the all-time series, 8-7. Last season, the Cavaliers and Lancers split a doubleheader, with UVa taking the first game 5-2 but dropping game two 6-2.
