CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (12-27, 4-8 ACC) will take on in-state opponent Liberty (7-22-1) in a doubleheader Wednesday on the road in Lynchburg, Va. The Cavaliers and Flames will play the first game at 2 p.m. and the second at approximately 4 p.m. Live stats will be available online at VirginiaSports.com. UVa continues its seven-game road swing after playing at Virginia Tech last weekend.

Second-year Kelly Haller leads Virginia at the plate with a .351 batting average while fourth-year Lindsey Preuss is second with a .342 average. Carly Winger ranks third batting .296 and also leads the team in runs scored with 19. Preuss is tied for second with 18 runs and also ranks first in hits (40) and home runs (5). Fifth-year Meghan O’Leary hits .286 with 36 hits and 18 runs scored.

Liberty is coming off an exciting week in which the Flames swept a midweek doubleheader from James Madison before taking two-of-three from Birmingham-Southern. Liberty plays a doubleheader at Tennessee Tuesday before battling the Cavaliers.

Ashley Williams leads Liberty with a .258 average, eight runs scored, three home runs and 11 RBI. She ranks second on the team with a .398 slugging percentage. She was instrumental in the Flames’ winning streak last week, batting .333 (6-for-18) and extending her hitting streak to seven games. Her six RBIs on the weekend gave her 151 for her career, moving her into first place on Liberty’s all-time career list. Williams was honored with Big South Player of the Week accolades.

In the all-time series, The Cavaliers lead Liberty 33-15. The two teams met last during the 2006 season in Lynchburg and split a doubleheader.
