UVa Golfers Climb to Seventh-Place Finish at River Landing

Wallace, NC – The Virginia men’s golf team shot 6-under 282 during the final round of NC State’s River Landing Intercollegiate to climb up the leaderboard for a seventh-place finish in the 15-team field. The Cavaliers’ final round score was the team’s second best 18-hole total this year. UVa finished the 54-hole event at 15-over 879. Duke, the only team to post a better single-round score than UVa during the three-day tourney, shot 11-under Sunday to win the tournament at 851. NC State was nine shots back in second place at 860.
Cavalier freshman Will Collins equaled her career-low with a 4-under 68 during the final round to tie for 20th overall at 2-over 218. UVa teammates Kyle Stough and Conrad Von Borsig, were also 20th. Von Borsig, playing as a non-scoring individual, also shot 68 during the final round, his best 18-hole score this year. Stough posted a 73 during the final round.
Greg Carlin and Steven Rojas also posted below-par scores Sunday. Carlin shot 71 to finish 36th at 5-over 221. Rojas carded a 70 to conclude the tourney in 45th place at 223. Amory Davis rebounded from a second-round 84 to shoot 74 Sunday and finish 77th at 234.
Duke’s Michael Schachner and Wake Forest’s Webb Simpson tied for first at 7-under 209. Schachner won a one-hole playoff for medalist honors.
The Cavaliers travel to the ACC Championships in New London, NC. April 18-20.
