CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Virginia softball team (13-31, 4-11 ACC) will square off against Maryland (30-14, 4-8 ACC) this weekend with a three-game series in College Park, Md. The Cavaliers are looking to bounce back after being swept at home against 15th-ranked North Carolina last weekend. UVa will battle the Terps at 1 p.m. Saturday with a doubleheader before closing the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Cavaliers stand in seventh place in the ACC standings with a 4-11 record in conference play. Maryland is 4-8 in ACC action and currently holds fifth place.

Second-year Kelly Haller leads Virginia at the plate with a .327 batting average. Fourth-year Lindsey Preuss bats .323 and leads Virginia with 43 hits, six home runs and is second with 21 RBI. Third-year Carly Winger hits .322 and has scored a team-best 24 runs on the year while also smacking six homers and fifth-year Meghan O’Leary’s 43 hits also tie for the team lead with Preuss.

The Terrapins are coming off a series loss at NC State last weekend and was swept in a doubleheader on the road to Penn State Wednesday.

Jenny Belak leads UM with a .353 batting average with 55 hits and 27 runs scored on the season. Sarde Steward hits .327 and paces the squad with 32 RBI and five home runs. Sarah Dooley’s 1.95 ERA tops the Terrapin pitching staff. Dooley is 13-10 on the year I 34 appearances and has registered 134 strikeouts.

UVa leads the all-time series with Maryland 28-12. In 2007, the Terps swept the three-game series in Charlottesville, winning 15-1, 8-3 and 11-1. In 2006, the last time the two teams met in College Park, the Cavaliers took two-of-three from Maryland.
