Richmond, VA The Virginia men’s golf team finished fourth in the 15-team VCU Shootout at Hermitage Country Club in Richmond. The Cavaliers shot 3-over 287 during Tuesday’s final round to complete the 54-tournament at 6-under 846. Wake Forest took top honors at 27-under 825. Augusta State and VCU tied for second at 841. Wichita State was fifth at 849 and Virginia Tech placed sixth at 850.

Sophomore Amory Davis turned in his finest collegiate performance to lead the Cavaliers with a sixth-place showing. Davis shot 1-under 70 to finish the tournament at 6-under 207 on the par-71 course. His previous best tournament score was 221 at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic last fall. His second-round score of 66 was a career low round.

Freshman Ben Kohles, who led UVa at its season-opening tournament at Maryland, finished 14th overall at 1-under 212. He posted a 1-under 70 during the final round. It marks the second consecutive tournament he has finished under par.

Sophomore Will Collins and junior Kyle Stough tied for 27th at 2-over 215. Stough shot 73 on Tuesday while Collins finished with a 74. Steven Rojas, playing in his first tournament this year, was 41st at 218, including a final round 75. Freshman Bruce Woodall, playing as a non-scoring individual, was 59th at 222.

Wake Forest’s Brendan Gielow and Wichita State’s Dustin Garza tied for first at 12-under 201. Both players shot 2-under 69 during the final round.

The Cavaliers head to Notre Dame next week for the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic slated for Oct. 6-7.
