Women's Tennis Opens Play at UVa Winter Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s tennis team kicked off its 2009 schedule Saturday as play began at the UVa Winter Invitational at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The three-day event features the Cavaliers, along with Arkansas, North Carolina and Utah runs through Monday.
On the opening day of play, the Cavaliers had one doubles victory and one singles victory, playing primarily against the No. 14 ranked Razorbacks. In doubles, the team of Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Neela Vaez (Perrysburg, Ohio) topped the Arkansas team of Emily Carbone and Ekaterina Lukomskaya 9-8 (3) in Flight C. In Flight D of singles, Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Arkansas’ Nanar Airpetian.
Play will continue Sunday at 10 a.m. Monday’s play begins at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
