Women's Tennis Concludes Play at UVa Winter Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s tennis team concluded play at the UVa Winter Invitational Monday at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers went 3-3 in singles and 2-1 in doubles on the final day, playing matches against ACC rival North Carolina.
In doubles, the Cavaliers got a win in Flight B from Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) and Neela Vaez (Perrysburg, Ohio), who defeated Laura Reichert and Meg Fanjoy 9-7. In Flight C, Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) topped Haley Hemm and Austin Smith 8-5.
In singles, Virginia got wins in Flight B, Flight C and Flight D. In Flight B, Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.), ranked No. 82 nationally, topped No. 103 Austin Smith 6-2, 6-3. Hardenbergh scored a 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 win over Sophie Grabinski in Flight C and Rales downed Reichert 6-4, 6-4 in Flight D.
Arkansas’ Aurelija Miseviciute, the nation’s No. 2 ranked player, took the tournament’s singles title by winning all three of her matches in Flight A. The Razorback duo of Anouk Tigu and Nanar Airapetian, ranked No. 8 nationally, took the doubles title by winning all three of their matches in Flight A.
Virginia opens the dual match season on Wednesday as it hosts Old Dominion. Match time at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club is set for 5 p.m.
