CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Freshman Morgane Gay earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as announced today. Gay, the ACC Freshman of the Year, will join eight other Cavaliers who automatically qualified for the national meet at the NCAA East Regional this past weekend. The NCAA Championships will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., on June 10-13.

Gay finished sixth in the 1500m finals at the East Regional on Saturday to miss the automatic berth by one place, but her season-best time of 4:21.61 ranks her 23rd nationally good enough to earn an at-large bid. Gay earned All-ACC honors at the outdoor conference championships this spring, finishing third. She also scored for the Cavaliers in the 800m.

Other Cavaliers competing at the national meet will include three-time All-American Yemi Ayeni, the NCAA East Region Champion in the discus, two-time All-American Billie-Jo Grant and Penn Relays Champion Caitlin Kelly all in the discus. Senior All-American Andrew Jesien will compete in the 1500m, juniors Steve Finley and Stephanie Garcia in the steeplechase, junior ACC Champion Meghan Briggs in the javelin and freshman All-American Lance Roller in the 800m.
