CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Rising senior Lauren Hutchins (North Vancouver, Canada) and former All-American Lindsay Shoop (Charlottesville, Va.) are competing this week at the World Championships in Poznan, Poland.

Both women are rowing for their respective countries in the women’s eight. In Monday’s heats, Shoop and the United States won their heat and advanced directly to Sunday’s final.

Hutchins and Canada finished third in their heat, and will compete in the repechage on Wednesday.

Hutchins was a captain and member of UVa’s Varsity Eight that finished as a silver medalist at the NCAA Championships in 2009.

Shoop graduated from Virginia in 2003 and was a two-time All-American for the Cavaliers. She won an Olympic Gold Medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, for the United States in the women’s eight.
