CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team opened play Friday at their only home tournament of the fall season, as the UVa Fall Invitational kicked off at the Snyder Tennis Center. The eight-team tournament runs through Sunday and features three 16-player singles draws and three eight-team doubles draws.

Day one of the tournament featured two rounds of singles in all three draws. In Flight A Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) won both her matches in straight sets to reach the semifinals. Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) both won their first round match in Flight A, but fell in the quarterfinals.

In Flight C, Neela Vaez (Perrysburg, Ohio) won both of her matches to reach the semifinals. Riley Blanks (Santa Barbara, Calif.) won her first round match in Flight C before falling in the quarterfinals later in the day.

The tournament continues Saturday with play beginning at 9 a.m. The day two schedule consists of two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles. Admission is free.
