CHARLOTTESVILLE— The Virginia athletics department announced today live online video streaming of home Virginia athletics events will not be offered through ACC Select or VirginiaSports.com during the 2009-10 athletic year. Archived video highlights and features will continue to be available for free on VirginiaSports.com and VirginiaSportsTV.com.

The ACC’s television partners hold the live online video streaming rights for the conference’s member institutions. Live online video streaming through ACC Select began as a subscription service for the 2006-07 athletic year. When a conference-wide streaming package could not be made available for the 2009-10 athletic year, the live video streaming rights transferred to the website partners of the ACC schools.

“After reviewing subscription numbers from previous seasons and the projected expenses that would now be the responsibility of the department without financial support from a third party, we decided to focus our efforts on providing free, on-demand video to our fans through VirginiaSports.com and VirginiaSportsTV.com,” said Todd Goodale, Virginia’s Associate Athletics Director for Marketing and Video Services. “Cavalier fans will continue to enjoy highlights, features, and behind-the-scenes video at no charge on the official sites of Virginia athletics.”

Watching free, archived video of Virginia athletics is easier than ever. VirginiaSports.com now features the ability to play video in the home page window. There is a link to VirginiaSportsTV.com below the main headline area on the home page of VirginiaSports.com. Fans may also visit Virginia’s exclusive video web channel through its direct URL, www.VirginiaSportsTV.com.

Select ACC championship events may be offered to fans at no charge through theACC.com and other conference institutions may choose to pursue live streaming options. For more information on live video streaming of ACC Select events, visit www.theacc.com.
