Postgame Quotes
No. 24 Virginia 82, Clemson 60
Feb. 4, 2010

Virginia Head Coach Debbie Ryan
On the game as a whole:
“Our whole approach tonight was to come out and play a much better game than we did on Sunday. We just felt like we had a lot to prove to ourselves and to our fans that that was just a bad day all around. I was glad to see us on the boards as well as we were. I thought we defended fairly well tonight and I was just pleased with our execution offensively. Four people in double figures is really what we’re striving for in every game. It was good to see players step up and just get the job done tonight.”

On the team’s defense:
“I think we were just taking advantage of what they were doing. I don’t think we really tweaked [the defense] much. I’m just not sure what they were doing to attack it so we were just going to keep it on until they attacked it.”

On Virginia’s scoring runs:
“We didn’t want there to be a Clemson answer. We really focused on the defensive end and making sure that we were covering players. A couple people that really haven’t shot the three well this year stepped up and shot the three a little bit better, but for the most part I thought we played the scouting report the way we were supposed to. I would have liked for the field goal percentage defense to be a little bit lower but I was pleased with the game in general.”

On Clemson:
“They’re a scary team. They won two games in a row pretty handily so it’s hard to tell. I think we just got off to a good start. I think our
younger post players really stepped up tonight and gave us some good inside play. We established an inside game from the start and I think that really did help us.”

Virginia Senior Guard Monica Wright
On the loss at Wake Forest on Sunday):
“Any loss is going to be a wake up call for us. It is time to regroup, take a look in the mirror and make sure that we improve upon everything that we were lacking in that game.”

On having four players in double figures:
“We have always been capable, it’s just a matter of doing it. We have been shooting really well in practice and we’ve been going game-speed so that when it comes time for the game, it’s like clockwork.“

On the excitement of preparing for the game at Maryland:
“Like we always say, this is more of a rivalry than Virginia Tech is. We are definitely excited for this game. We are eager to get up to College Park and come back with a win.“

Virginia Freshman Guard Lexie Gerson:
On playing in the ACC:
“I love it. I decided I was going to play in the ACC. It has been great. I love how anyone can win any day. That is my favorite part. I just love the competition. It is awesome.“
