CHARLOTTESVILLE — The Virginia men’s tennis team wil host the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championship this weekend at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The tournament, which features the top 16 teams in the nation, will run Feb. 12-15 with eight matches each of the first three days and the championship match at noon on Monday.

The Cavaliers are No. 2 seed and begin play Friday night at 6:30 p.m. against No. 15 seed Alabama. Virginia has won the last two ITA National Indoor titles and is looking to become only the second school in the event’s history to win three consecutive titles. Stanford won the first three tournaments in 1973, 1975 and 1976 (no tournament played in 1974). Since then, six teams have won consecutive titles, but the Cavaliers are looking to be the first of those programs to win a third straight championship.

Charlottesville is hosting the event for the first time in history.

Friday’s schedule features eight round of 16 matchups: (3) Ohio State vs. (14) Louisville at 9 a.m., (6) Baylor vs. (11) Florida at 9 a.m., (1) USC vs. (16) Fresno State at noon, (8) Texas vs. (9) Stanford at noon, (5) Tennessee vs. (12) Illinois at 3 p.m., (7) Georgia vs. (10) Mississippi at 3 p.m., (2) Virginia vs. (15) Alabama at 6:30 p.m., and (4) UCLA vs. (13) Kentucky at 6:30 p.m.

Admission to the tournament is free. Live scoring of every match of the tournament will be available at VirginiaSports.com.
