Potasinski Wins 1000m at VT Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Tasia Potasinski led the Virginia track and field team on Friday at the Virginia Tech Challenge in Rector Field House – the site of next week’s ACC Indoor Championships – by winning the 1000m in a time of 2:51.02.
The individual title is a collegiate first for Potasinski, who has also claimed relay titles for the Cavaliers this season.
Virginia also put three runners across the line in the top-four finishers of the 600m. Led by senior Jen Hovland’s runner-up finish in 1:34.24, junior Ariane Sloan took third in a personal-best time of 1:34.85, while sophomore Rosemary Barber took fourth in 1:35.77.
In the men’s 1000m, sophomore Sintayehu Taye ran his best time of 2:26.61 to finish fourth.
The Cavaliers will conclude competition tomorrow, with events beginning for Virginia at 11 a.m.
