CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three members of the Virginia men’s diving team – senior Alex D’Ambrosio, sophomore Briggy Imbriglia and freshman Kevin Moore – will compete this week at the NCAA Zone Meet held at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. The meet will be held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on Rutgers’ Busch Campus.

Like the format from the conference championships, the men’s events begin with the 3-meter board on Friday. The 1-meter event will be contested Saturday with the platform event scheduled for Sunday.

“The major goal all year has been to qualify for the NCAA Championships,” Virginia diving coach Rich MacDonald said. “They have worked really hard and I am really proud of what they have done to improve to get to where they are. I am excited to go there and compete; all three of them have a chance to do something really special.”

Imbriglia led the way for the UVa divers at the conference meet, scoring 20 points between the three events. He became the first Cavalier to earn a berth in the platform finals, where he went on to finish in eighth place.

“The ACC meet was the strongest in the country so for Alex and Briggy to be coming out of that meet should give them a lot of confidence,” MacDonald said. “It’s going to be great for Kevin – he needs this kind of big meet experience. It’s going to be a competitive meet.”
