CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia sophomore pitcher/first baseman Danny Hultzen (Bethesda, Md.) has been named one of 25 semifinalists for the 2010 Dick Howser Trophy, which is presented to the top player in college baseball.

Hultzen is 7-1 with an ACC-low 1.98 earned run average this season. In 81.2 innings, he has allowed 52 runs and 15 walks while striking out an ACC-best 99 batters. Opponents are batting just .177 against him this year.

He has been consistently strong all season and has pitched at least six innings in 11 of his 12 starts. He ranks seventh nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (5.73), 12th in ERA and 14th in strikeouts.
