Charlottesville, VA – Virginia women’s golfers Brittany Altomare and Whitney Neuhauser have advanced to a pair of major national championships.

Altomare, a freshman on UVa’s team last season, secured one of two spots from a sectional qualifying tournament for the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open. Playing at the Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass., Altomare shot 2-under 140 to take medalist honors in the field of 28 players. She fired a 2-under 69 during her final round.

Altomare was an honorable mention All-American in 2010, placing 15th overall at the NCAA Championships. The U.S. Open takes play July 8-11 championship at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club. Altomare played in the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open.

Neuhauser qualified for the 2010 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. The national championship will be played from June 21-26 at The Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind.

A senior at UVa last year, Neuhauser shot 6-over 77 at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Fairfax to be one of three players to qualify from the site. Neuhauser reached the round of 32 at last year’s Women’s Amateur Public Links.
