CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Virginia announced on Thursday its 2010 women’s volleyball schedule, which includes 12 matches against 2009 NCAA Tournament participants and three non-conference tournaments, including two at Memorial Gymnasium.

The schedule features 13 home matches, including contests against NCAA Tournament participants and conference rivals Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Miami. The Cavaliers also face NCAA Tournament participants Long Beach State and Southern California during a west coast swing in early September.

“Every season, our objective is to compete for an ACC Championship and earn a postseason berth,” head coach Lee Maes said. “In preparation for conference play, it was important for us to challenge our squad against some of the best teams in the country. We feel we’ve done that with our scheduling. Two traits of a nationally prominent team are its ability to sustain competitive excellence over time and positively respond to stress on the road. Our team will be challenged in that regard when we head out west to play three of the traditionally top-25 teams in the country.

“We will also host two preseason tournaments that feature a number of top regional teams. UVa fans will have 13 home opportunities to closely witness drama-filled action on every point. We are anxious for the upcoming season and excited to give our players an opportunity to grow and challenge themselves in order to reach our team goals.”

Virginia opens the 2010 season in Philadelphia, Pa., taking on Valparaiso, Delaware and Temple in the Temple Invitational on Aug. 27-28. The Cavaliers’ home debut is the next weekend when Virginia hosts the annual Holiday Inn Jefferson Cup Tournament Sept. 3-4. The four-team event features contests against North Florida, in-state rival Liberty and George Washington.

Season and individual match tickets go on sale beginning Tuesday, July 6, at 9 a.m.

All volleyball season ticket holders are guaranteed a seat in a reserved general admission seating area at Memorial Gymnasium. Season tickets for adults are $30, while youth, senior and faculty/staff season tickets are $20. For a single match, general admission tickets are $5 but does not guarantee a seat in the bleachers. Youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission tickets are $4 and group tickets (20 or more) are $3 per ticket. Discounted tickets for active faculty/staff members are limited to two per match.
