WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Virginia men’s tennis team will be well represented this weekend in the qualifying draw of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, a 500 level tournament on the ATP Tour. Rising-senior Michael Shabaz and former UVa All-American Somdev Devvarman are among the 24 players competing for six spots in next week’s main draw.

Shabaz is competing at Legg Mason for the first time, as he received a wild card into the qualification draw. He will meet young American star Donald Young, ranked No. 99 in the world, in the first round on Saturday.

Devvarman is competing at Legg Mason for the fifth consecutive year. He advanced from qualies to reach the quarterfinals in 2008 and the round of 16 in 2009, defeating world No. 15 Marin Cilic. He will play Denis Kudla in the first round on Saturday.

Play begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Fitzgerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park. Shabaz vs. Young is the third match of the day on the stadium court with the Devvarman vs. Kudla match to follow.
