For a three-day span from Thursday, Aug. 5 to Saturday, Aug. 7, members of the Virginia volleyball team personally delivered 2010 volleyball season tickets to their fan base that resides in the Charlottesville area.

“I think it’s important for our girls to connect with and get to know our local fan base,” head coach Lee Maes said. “These are the people that support us throughout the season.”

The team worked in groups to deliver tickets and personally thank their fans for purchasing tickets and supporting the Cavalier volleyball program. Senior Sydney Hill went out twice to greet season ticket holders, once with classmate AJ Cushman and again with sophomore Tobi Farrar. Senior Kendahl Voelker and sophomore Jessica O’Shoney, in addition to junior Simone Asque and transfer sophomore Beth Wildermuth formed another set of pairs, while juniors Hillary Trebels and Tess Udall and sophomore Rachel Gray traveled around as a group.

“Surprising ticket holders by delivering the season tickets was a wonderful way to make a connection with our fans, and is an experience I will never forget or replace,” Hill said. “I was able to see the smiles on their faces and talk with them for a while about their families, interests and of course Virginia volleyball. It was thrilling to see people within the Charlottesville community genuinely excited about our program. I am sure this will become a tradition for Virginia volleyball.”

The Virginia volleyball schedule features 13 home matches this fall, including weekend contests against NCAA Tournament participants and conference rivals Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Miami in Memorial Gymnasium.

Season and individual match tickets are still on sale for all contests. All season ticket holders are guaranteed a seat in a reserved general admission seating area at Mem Gym. Season tickets for adults are $30, while youth, senior and faculty/staff season tickets are $20. For a single match, general admission tickets are $5 but do not guarantee a seat in the bleachers. Youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission tickets are $4 and group tickets (20 or more) are $3 per ticket. Discounted tickets for active faculty/staff members are limited to two per match.

The Cavaliers will also hold their annual Orange-Blue Scrimmage in Mem Gym on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. Admission is free of charge for the event.
