BOCA RATON, Fla. – University of Virginia first-year Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) lost Thursday in the semifinals of the US Open Wild Card Playoff, held at the USTA Training Headquarters. Domijan lost 7-6, 6-3 to top-seeded Tim Smyczek, who is currently ranked No. 196 in the world.
The USTA invited eight young American players to compete in the tournament for a main draw wild card at this year’s US Open.
Domijan won his first round match on Wednesday over Andrea Collarini, 7-5, 6-2.
Cavalier sophomore Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) was also selected to compete, but had to withdraw. Jenkins will have a chance to compete in New York next week as he was given a wild card into the US Open Qualifying Draw.
