CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s soccer team hosts American University on Tuesday (Sept. 21). Kick-off from Klöckner Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m., and live statistics will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

Virginia (3-1-1, 0-1-1 ACC) is coming off a 1-0 loss to No. 12 Wake Forest on Saturday (Sept. 18) night. The Cavaliers are led by Jimmy Simpson’s (Warrenton, Va.) three goals offensively, while Brian Span (Somers, N.Y.) and Sean Hiller (Howell, N.J.) have each scored two goals this season.

Virginia is ranked No. 2 in the Sept. 14 Soccer America poll and the Sept. 14 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top 25. Both polls are released each Tuesday during the regular season.

American has a 3-2 record and is coming off a 2-1 victory at home over Syracuse on Saturday night. The Eagles are led by Alassane Kane, who has scored four goals and tallied one assist, followed by Jamie Davin (one goal, three assists) and Eli Dennis (one goal, three assists).

Virginia leads the all-time series with American, 15-3-0 and has won nine-consecutive contests against the Eagles. Last season, Virginia won during the regular season, 3-0, and current ‘Hoo Will Bates (Chester, Va.) had a goal in that contest.

Defensively for Virginia, Diego Restrepo (West Palm Beach, Fla.) has started all five matches in goal and recorded two shutouts. He has allowed four goals and has a goals-against average of 0.77.

Against non-conference opponents, Virginia has a 15-game unbeaten streak. The last non-conference opponent to defeat UVa was UConn during the 2008 NCAA Tournament (2-0 on Nov. 25).

Up next for UVa, the Cavaliers travel to Clemson on Saturday (Sept. 25) for an ACC match. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
