CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia cross country teams will head to Bethlehem, Pa., Friday to compete in Lehigh’s 37th-annual Brooks-Paul Short Invitational. More than 5,000 runners from 230 colleges and high schools are scheduled to compete in races throughout Friday morning and afternoon.

The Cavaliers are one of 10 schools from Virginia to compete in the meet. The 22nd-ranked men will toe the line for an 8k race at 11 a.m., while the 12th-ranked women will run a 6k at 11:45 a.m. The men will face four ranked opponents: No. 12 Iona, No. 23 Princeton, No. 24 Georgetown and No. 28 William & Mary, while the women will face two other ranked teams: No. 1 Villanova and No. 6 Georgetown. The Cavaliers will also field runners in the 10:10 a.m. men’s open 8k race.

In Virginia’s only other competition this year, the women’s squad set a Lou Onesty meet record by finishing with a perfect score – led by individual champion Stephanie Garcia. The men’s team finished second to Norfolk State and was led by Ryan Collins’ third-place finish.

Up next, Virginia will return home to host the second-annual Panorama Farms Invitational. Races are set to begin at 4 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 15.
