TULSA, Okla — Two members of the Virginia men’s tennis team advanced on the first day of play of the pre-qualifying draw of the ITA All-American Championships at the Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. Philippe Oudshoorn (Apeldoorn, The Netherlands) and Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) both reached the final round of pre-qualifying.

Shane, a 17-32 seed, received a first round bye before topping Daniel Brown of Texas A&M 6-1, 6-3 in the second round. He meets Steven Henderson of UC Irvine in the third and final round of pre-qualifying on Sunday.

Oudshoorn won a pair of matches on Saturday to advance. He defeated Kayvon Karimi of Texas A&M 6-1, 6-1 in the first round before downing No. 9-16 seed Aleksey Bessonov of Oklahoma State 6-2, 6-4 in the second round. He plays Juan Diego Cuadrado of Bradley in the third and final round.

With wins on Sunday, Shane and Oudshoorn would advance to the qualifying draw, which begins Monday. Julen Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Steven Eelkman Rooda (Amersfoort, The Netherlands) are already in the qualifying draw.

Main draw play begins Thursday. Five Cavaliers are in the main draw: Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.), Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India), Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.), Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) and Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.).
