CHARLOTTESVILLE — The Virginia National Bank Tennis Championships, a stop on the ATP Challenger Tour, continues Friday with singles and doubles quarterfinals. The featured singles and doubles matches of the evening are headlined by current and former Cavaliers.

Senior Michael Shabaz, who reached the main draw through qualifying, will meet fifth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan in the evening’s featured singles match (not before 5:30 p.m.). Shabaz downed world No. 221 Giovanni Lapentti of Ecuador in the first round and world No. 175 Ryan Harrison of the United States in the second round. Nishikori, currently ranked No. 126, was ranked as high as No. 56 in the world last year. He reached the third round of this year’s US Open, upsetting world No. 13 Marin Cilic in the second round.

The night’s featured doubles match, which will follow the Shabaz-Nishikori match, is highlighted by Somdev Devvarman and Treat Huey, the all-time winningest doubles team in UVa history. They meet Andrew Anderson of South Africa and Chris Eaton of Great Britain in the quarterfinal match.

The day’s schedule, which begins at 11:00 a.m., consists of three other singles quarterfinals and a doubles quarterfinal. The fourth match of the day’s schedule is Devvarman’s singles quarterfinal match against Chris Guccione of Australia. Devvarman won his second round match 6-3, 6-3 over Greg Jones of Australia on Thursday night.
