CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team announced the signing of one recruit during the fall signing period. Molly O’Koniewski (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) will join the program in the fall of 2011.

“We are really looking forward to Molly’s arrival at the University of Virginia and the start of her career here next fall,” said head coach Mark Guilbeau. “Molly is an outstanding young lady; an extremely hard worker; and the type of student, athlete and person that will bring great habits, character and intensity to our team. She has worked very hard and with a strong focus to become one of the best junior players in the United States. Her goals and work ethic match exactly what we are about as a program. We are excited about her desire to continue to improve and her intention to maximize her abilities throughout the upcoming year and during her collegiate career. We will be working toward the same goals here and are confident that Molly will be joining one of the best teams in the country next season. She certainly adds to the bright future ahead for Virginia Women’s Tennis.”

O’Koniewski is a blue chip recruit, ranked No. 16 in the class of 2011 by tennisrecruiting.net. This year, she reached the singles final of the Gator Bowl tournament and was a member of the Southern Section Girls 18’s team that finished in first place. Last year she reached the Girls 16’s quarterfinals of the prestigious Orange Bowl tournament. She was recently named the 2010 USTA Southern Section Sportsmanship Award winner.

“I am so excited to get to UVa and have the opportunity be on the court with the coaches and the girls,” said O’Koniewski. “The girls are all such great workers and competitors. I know my game will improve just being on the court with them every day. Coach Guilbeau and Coach (Troy) Porco have already shown great insight in what it will take to make me a better player. I am very thankful for this opportunity. Go Hoos!”
