Charlottesville, VA – Virginia junior golfer Ben Kohles (Cary, N.C.) is the GolfWorld college player of the week for Feb. 14-20. Kohles led Virginia to a third-place showing at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Kahuku, Hawaii, and won a three-way playoff for medalist honors.

Kohles used a final-round 5-under 67 to climb into a tie for first place Friday and then won the title with a birdie on the second playoff hole. Kohles finished at 10-under 206 to equal the best tournament score of his career.

Kohles was one of four UVa players to shoot in the 60s during Friday’s final round. Virginia posted a third-round score of 19-under 269 to set a school 18-hole scoring record.

The victory was the fifth in Kohles’ career, tying him with former Cavalier standout Simon Cooke atop the career wins list. It was the 13th top-10 finish in his career, moving him into a tie with Steve Marino (1999-2002) for fourth-place on that UVa all-time list.
