CHARLOTTESVILLE – Three members of the Virginia women’s tennis team were honored for their play last week at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships by being named to the all-tournament team. Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) was named to the team at No. 2 singles and the duo of Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and Rashmi Teltumbde (Mumbai, India) was honored at No. 3 doubles.

The Cavaliers upset No. 3 Baylor in the first round before falling to No. 6 Duke in the quarterfinals. The Cavaliers added a consolation draw win over No. 20 Northwestern to conclude the tournament.

Hardenbergh clinched the victory over No. 3 Baylor, the highest ranked opponent Virginia has ever beaten. With the dual match tied at 3-3, she rallied from down 5-1 in the final set to top No. 30 Diana Nakic 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(6) to give the Cavaliers the 4-3 win. The next day, she topped No. 48 Ellah Nze of Duke in straight sets as Virginia fell in the quarterfinals. She was the only singles player honored on the all-tournament team who wasn’t from either champion Stanford or runner-up Florida.

The team of Fuccillo and Teltumbde went 3-0 in the tournament at No. 3 doubles, helping the Cavaliers win the doubles point in all three matches.

The Cavaliers, now ranked a school-record No. 9, are in Montgomery, Ala., this week for the Blue Gray Tennis Classic.
