WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The No. 8 Virginia women’s tennis team concluded its non-conference schedule with a 11-2 record as it topped No. 47 William & Mary 6-1 Saturday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Cavaliers will open ACC play on Sunday at noon when they host No. 68 Virginia Tech.

Virginia took a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) topped Marlen Mesgarzadeh and Katie Kargl 8-3 at No. 2 before Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and Rashmi Teltumbde (Mumbai, India) rallied from down two breaks at No. 3 for a 9-7 win over Lauren Sabacinski and Jeltje Loomans to clinch the opening point for the Cavaliers.

In singles, the Cavaliers won five matches, all in straight sets. Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top spot over Hope Johnson. Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) defeated Nina Vulovich 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. Vierra won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 over Mesgarzadeh and Fuccillo defeated Anik Cepada 6-4, 7-6 at No. 5. Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Kargl.

Sunday’s match against Virginia Tech, the Cavaliers’ ACC opener, will now begin at noon, a change from the original schedule. The match will be played outdoors at the Snyder Tennis Center, weather permitting. Fans should check VirginiaSports.com for the latest information on the location of the match. Cavman’s Crew Day, a clinic and festivities for youth, scheduled for prior to Sunday’s match has been postponed. It will be rescheduled for a match later in the season.
