CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s basketball team will host Morgan State in the opening round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Thursday, March 17, at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers earned an at-large berth to the 64-team postseason tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and live statistics will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

The game will air locally on WINA 1070 AM in the Charlottesville area. That broadcast is available on the Internet at VirginiaSports.com with a subscription to Virginia Sports Online Radio.

“We’re really pleased and happy to be in the field and I think the players will be very prepared to take on Morgan State in the first round,” Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan said. “It’s great to get another game in John Paul Jones Arena.”

Virginia (16-15) is making its 29th overall postseason appearance and fourth WNIT appearance. The Cavaliers advanced to the WNIT quarterfinals in 2006 and 2007.

Morgan State finished its regular season with a 17-14 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the MEAC.

Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $6 for youth, students and seniors. All tickets will be sold as general admission. Gates to John Paul Jones Arena will open at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday (March 15) at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online at VirginiaSports.com, by calling the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at (800) 542-UVA1 or in person at the John Paul Jones Arena box office beginning 90 minutes prior to tip-off.

Gameday parking will be available, free of charge, at John Paul Jones Arena and University Hall parking lots.

The winner of Thursday’s contest will face the winner of Old Dominion vs. Loyola (Md.) in the second round.
