ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomores Dallas Rose and Emily Vannoy led the Virginia track and field team Friday afternoon on the opening day of the Spec Towns Invitational. Rose started the day with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump, leaping a season-best 40′ 7.5″, while Vannoy led the team with a third-place finish in the shot put. Vannoy threw a season-best 49′ 3.5″.

Junior Maureen Laffan joined Vannoy in the shot put, while also competing in the hammer throw. Laffan finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 47′ 11″, while she threw 158′ 2″ in the hammer. Classmate Erin Wykoff hit a mark of 162′ 2″ in the hammer.

On the men’s side, junior Vincenzo Chiariello finished seventh in the hammer throw with a throw of 191′ 7″.

Virginia will return to action tomorrow at both the George Mason Invitational and the Spec Towns Invitational.
