GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Megan Dunleavy has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for her role in Virginia’s win over in-state rival George Mason on April 13 – UVa’s lone game last week.

Dunleavy helped Virginia’s defense limit the Patriots to two first half goals, en route to a 14-7 win. The defender from Fairfax Station, Va., scooped up a career-high five ground balls, while also winning one draw control and causing one turnover.

For the season, Dunleavy has 24 ground balls, four draw controls and seven caused turnovers.

This marks the first career weekly award for Dunleavy, while it is the second time this season a Cavalier has been named the league’s defender of the week. Junior Bailey Fogarty earned the honor on March 22.

Up next, Virginia will head to Cary, N.C., to compete for its sixth conference crown. The 2011 ACC Tournament will be held at WakeMed Park Thursday through Sunday, April 21, 22 and 24. The Cavaliers will face third-seeded North Carolina in the first round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
